How we keep this current
Rules change, and they change often. No printed page or saved file can keep up with that. So The Order Matters, College Tool and the reference charts are each kept current, and each points back to the official sources it is built on.

Back to the current version
At the front of the book is A Note Before You Read, with a link to the current version. Tap it in the PDF or the ebook. In print, point your phone’s camera at it.

What stays current
The Order Matters
The free PDF and EPUB on the book’s page are revised first, and the page shows the day they were last revised. Store copies and the paperback follow on a longer cycle. Its contents link to each chapter, in the PDF, the ebook and online.
College Tool
It uses the currently published rates. When VA’s rates change, the app’s are brought current without waiting for a new version of the app, and they point back to their official VA sources. Its updates are logged, with what each one changed, on Screens and updates.
Reference charts
Each chart lists its official sources and the day it was checked, and a printed chart points back to the current version on the Charts page. When a rule changes, the file there changes with it.
When it changes
Refinement is constant
In the book, the app, the charts and this site, year-round.
A published update
At least once a year.
Supplemental changes
When conditions require them, so the guide stays truthful, accurate and useful.
Useful information, with its official source
The book, the app, the charts and this site are built from the same official sources: the law, VA’s regulations, and the pages of VA and the Department of Defense. They are listed in one place, with what each one covers, so you can check any of it yourself.

Help us get it right
Readers and reviewers can send a correction or a suggestion. See something that doesn’t match the official source? Tell us where and point us to the source. Each report is checked against it, and what does not match is corrected.
